Development Communication and Public Relations for NGOs and Community Development


The course will focus on helping students to become competent facilitators of groups whose members are of different cultural, social, economic, etc. backgrounds and with different needs; it will cover definition, nature and scope of public relations, managing conflicts, planning group goals, interaction patterns involving both internal and external group dynamics that affect communication; principles, practices and problems of organizing, developing and implementing a public relations programme. It also covers the best practices in media and interpersonal communication as communication tools for accelerating sustainable development; it will highlight the challenges of training in the field, the emerging participatory approaches to communication, social action processes, and leadership principles and skills; students will have the opportunity to develop a communication model for their organization.
